Who am I

Onno Hart, MA

Real insight into the World of Higher Education

With a Master’s degree (MA) in English Language & Literature, I have spent the past twenty years working in higher education as a lecturer, mentor, and thesis supervisor, and in the corporate sector as a trainer and coach. Teaching a wide variety of communication and business subjects to over 2000 students across seven different universities and over 20 study programs has given me deep insights into academic life, which I now use to guide young people forward. I don’t believe in long, drawn-out processes, homework assignments or generic study tips, but rather in one top-quality assessment, focused conversations and tailored advice. Through this approach, I help you understand how academic programs really work, how institutions differ individually, and which skills are needed to succeed – involving families in the process so they are informed and supported, while the student remains in the lead.

From Study Choice to Student Life Abroad

Choosing a study program is a big decision, and it’s natural to worry: “What if it doesn’t suit me?” “What if I drop out?” About 1 in 3 students quit during or after the first year. After seeing this happen repeatedly, I founded StudyCompass – to help students make a confident, well-informed choice they can stand behind.

Studying in a new country comes with challenges beyond academics. I guide and advise students in understanding the Dutch education system, adapting to life in an international program, and navigating cultural differences between the Netherlands and their home country. Families are included throughout the process, ensuring everyone feels informed and confident.

Coaching For Study And Beyond

Choosing a study program also means choosing a direction for your future. That's why my final report (Premium) offers not only study advice but also a clear view of your career prospects after graduation. During your studies, I remain available for personal coaching and guidance throughout your studies – including career exploration when you approach graduation.
