Frequently Asked Questions

What can I do with an IBDP or IBCP diploma in the Dutch education system?

In the Netherlands, admission requirements are the same for international and Dutch students. The International Baccalaureate diplomas are officially recognized and give access to higher education:

IBDP: Equivalent to the Dutch VWO. With an IBDP you have direct access to all universities (WO) and universities of applied sciences (HBO).

IBCP: Comparable to the Dutch HAVO / MBO-4. With an IBCP you have direct access to all universities of applied sciences (HBO).

Unlike in the UK or US, where universities often require a specific number of IB points overall and per subject (for example “36 points total, including a 6 in HL Mathematics”), in the Netherlands your diploma itself is sufficient. In some cases, there are additional requirements (for example, selective programs such as Medicine, Economics, or University Colleges) and they apply equally to Dutch and international students.

 For example:

- Medicine or Biomedical Sciences may require HL Biology and HL Chemistry.

- Economics or Econometrics may require HL Mathematics (AA or AI).

- Social Sciences or Business programmes are usually fine with SL Mathematics.

- In my guidance, I always explain which route — IBDP or IBCP — best matches your ambitions and which additional requirements may apply.

How are families involved in the process?

Families are kept informed and can ask questions, so they understand the student’s choices and feel confident in the process. The student always remains the decision-maker.

What sets StudyCompass apart from other study guidance services?

I combine extensive experience within Dutch universities, in-depth knowledge of a wide range of programs, and a warm, personal approach. This allows me to provide realistic, well-informed, and tailored advice.

Can I also have a separate conversation about my study choice?

That is possible, but it falls under the Personal Coaching service. To make a clear and well-founded decision with confidence, one of the full study choice packages is recommended.

Is the advice fully tailored to me?

Yes. Every program is customized to your unique talents, interests, background, and ambitions. There are no generic recommendations – the advice is truly personal.

Can I pay in installments?

Yes. For our premium packages, payment in two or three installments is possible. This allows you to spread the cost over several months without affecting the full service.
